I saw someone recently make a comment about how they keep a gratitude or thankfulness journal, making daily entries on what they are thankful for. I thought this would be an awesome thing for my year, however, I have an awful time keeping pace with my writing. I tend to find myself diving head first into so many other things that writing for pleasure seems always to take a back seat.
This blog was going to be a year long project writing down each day something that I was thankful for. I think I made it 5 days into the project and then my mind went elsewhere….oh well. So instead I thought perhaps just listing a few things I am grateful for now would suffice.
I am a new pastor. I was called to lead 2 churches. I am first and foremost grateful to God that He entrusted me with the leadership of these two congregations.
I am grateful for new friends and new families. When a person joins a church and decides on a church home it should be more than just a place to come to worship together on Sunday morning. These are our families, they are here to build us up in encouragement and love. To stand by us and weep with us during our moments of struggle and loss of loved ones. I am grateful that, that is exactly what I have a large extended family with beautiful, caring and encouraging people.
I am grateful for a loving supportive family in my home. Moving to a new town, new school and new people is often difficult and can be discouraging. As a person, new to being a full time pastor the love and support I receive at home is extremely important. I am grateful that I have a loving and caring husband who supports me in my calling. Who is a listening ear when I am discouraged, and a sounding board for my crazy ideas. I am also blessed with my daughter who is now going into her senior year of high school who was willing to leave her friends behind and move to a much larger school. Who with her father and I took that leap of faith. She has been and continues to be a great comfort to me, reminding me daily how much I mean to her.
I am grateful for beautiful sunrises, hot cups of coffee and an entire symphony of birdsong that greets me each day.
I am grateful for long conversations, shoulders to cry on, laughter and strange senses of humor.
I am grateful for a strong mind, a convicted heart and love enough to share with those around me.
I am grateful for a country where I can proclaim my faith in Jesus Christ and share it with others. If you don’t know who Jesus is, and want to learn more, I am always ready to share.
I am grateful that you took a moment of your time to read this. What are you grateful for?
Blessings on your journey.
